Bowdon Killer Bee's 4 - West Derby 1With the geese flying South above the Devisdale, winter looked like it had finally arrived. But there was nothing cold about the start the B's made on Saturday. With a few more new faces in the starting line up, it was going to be a challenge to play as a unit - but we were very much up for it and within minutes were one up following a silky move that saw the ball shelled out from Chris at centre half to the sylph like Robbie at 'top right edge of the D', (a position he was determined to remain steadfastly to all game). Sweeping the ball into the D, the pass found Swithenbank who blasted the ball in from close range. The opposing keeper was having a great game, but like a cheap suit, we were soon all over him again and within minutes of the first, had added a second thanks to a wonderful run from deep, past 4 or 5 players, by Chris, which ended in him turning the keeper inside out before slotting the ball home. A third was added before half time after a short corner was expertly turned inside to Dave Swarbrick who controlled the ball well, swept it back inside and allowed a surprised fellow team member to turn and score past a hapless defence. Just before the turn around, Tubby really let us down. A really slow ball dribbled into the D and he let it in. No excuses, just poor keeping. I'm sure he would agree. Calling for 'at least 8 in the second half', Olly was instrumental in ensuring the team pushed forward at every opportunity. However, a combination of taking the foot off the gas, some dodgy shooting and some good keeping, kept the B's down to only one more. Chris at centre half, Olly at defensive centre half and Ben at right back provided great attacking service throughout the game and the team played very well together - it was almost as though we had a strategy!! (Oi! We always have a strategy. It's just that sometimes confidentiality agreements between me & Pidders prevent me from telling the rest of the team, that's all... - Ed) Christian (I have to commend Mr James on his diplomatic omission of any reference to Robbie 'Balck Hole' Smith in this report. It goes in but it never comes out... - Ed) |
