North Staffs 1 - Bowdon Killer Bees 3

What have we learnt from our matches ?

* Pass the ball - simple passes to the stick
* Grass pitches - we are not too hot on grass although have made significant improvements
* Ring - defend the attacking ball.
* Find a team that is at our impeccable level allowing us to demonstrate our true ability

(Well I wouldn't actually say you lot have learnt this yet, but I appreciate the sentiment - Ed)

This weeks venue gave us an opportunity to demonstrate how good we are. Playing on Astro, against a team averaging 8 years old, and a full squad of
Bees, including the new one and only Andy White our Goalkeeper.

We all worked extremely hard trying to keep up with the young team. Our ability to consume lots of food and beer did not bode well against an athletic, fit, skilful bunch of 8 year olds. The simple ball passes were occasionally practiced. the lesson learnt was not to pass to Carl as he was constantly being attacked by a highly skilful attacking player. Age had nothing to do with it!!

Despite the play being well into our half, we did manage to break occasionally (with a resulting final score 3 -1) this did, more or less, reflect the opportunities we had in attack. Well done!! It was a bit like the England Football team. No one in mid field - most in defence and a couple up front. I thought the tactics were first class. Man of the match had to be our new goal keeper, Andy. I'm quite sure it was a relief for our defence to hear the constant "keeper's ball" as we skillfully let the ball through.

Having all consumed a jug of beer, packs of Quavers and then faced the bullet chips, the whole day was a challenge to the Bees. We came through as
outright winners, not only beating them, but leaving no food. Even the re-cooked bullet chips, soggy fish fingers and dry bread went down well.

PS Did anyone bring the food back up ??

(Yeah, end on a high note Tennant! Well done to Dave T for scoring two goals, and to Mr Buggeridge for scoring the third one! A stroke of tactical genius by the captain putting Stuart on the right wing eh? Or was it 'cos he was limping so much I just wanted him out of the way? We'll never know... MVP definitely Andy White, even though he stole some lemon meringue pie off an innocent looking young girl back at their clubhouse & woofed it down without chewing. Mind you, he deserves anything he can get for wearing Tubby's keepers kit! )
