Lytham St Annes 4 - Bowdon Killer Bees 1

It was the usual wet, heavy going grass pitch at Lytham, our Captain had abandoned us, it was raining, but we did have an umpire, Mike, who decided he would be warmer and drier on the side lines, and we have discovered a hidden talent. In all my years as a Captain I don't know how I missed it, no Sticky not you and your Stealth Boots (now on duty in the Gulf) it is the Left Wing lothario Giles who has the makings of a great goalie, such a pity he doesn't see it himself.

Dave Phillips had a great game on the right wing finally scoring our goal for us and covering his wing well making many good runs.

Unfortunately we were not up to Lytham's standard who pass and move the ball well. But we must get the ball into the 'D' quicker, be stronger in our tackling (both hands on the stick) and not alter the line up without at least telling the captain thus leaving holes in our attack with no back up.

On a lighter note the Captain for the day made one if not The most constructive half time talk he ever did in eleven and a half years as a captain mentioning positional play, tactics and even taking in pitch condition as part of the attack plan; can you better this Olly? (Er... probably not - speechwriting Ed)). I wont mention the lightening strike on goal that the keeper 'only just got to and nearly got blown off his feet in saving it'.

The four who stayed enjoyed the beer and sandwiches after, and were very apologetic to the Lytham captain as it was only us left to sample their hospitality, why not take a coach next time Ol? Paul Blackwell hasn't toured for years!
